It is a common myth that you can put grease down a drain as long as there is a flow of hot water at the same time, this is wrong! Grease should never be put down the drain!
A grease clogged drain is one of the hardest things to tackle and could require your floor digging up in order to target the affected line.
Where does the grease come from you ask?
Grease commonly comes from cooking fats that are poured down the drain after use. Grease can also build up from food scraps, meats, and dairy products. Bet you also didn’t know it can come from animal fat-based soaps? When buying your next bar, it may be worth just checking the label.
So, what are the signs of a grease infected drain?
Well, an obvious sign is slow draining. Grease built up on the inside of your pipes will mean it takes longer for waste/water to drain through.
A second sign is your drains backing up. Again, a buildup of grease can stop the flow completely and instead of getting rid of your waste, can cause it to come back up.
